Magnet Schools Transportation

Elementary
Elementary schools are divided into seven transportation zones. Transportation is provided to any elementary student living in the same zone that their magnet school is located. Also, some elementary magnet schools provide transportation to students living outside their zones. You will see these schools listed with the elementary zone maps. The distance to a bus stop can be up to one and one-half (1 1/2) miles from the residence, or up to two (2) miles if the neighborhood school is used as a bus stop. Some elementary magnet students will transfer at a hub site (another school) and ride another bus to their magnet school. The afternoon will be the reverse.

Middle Schools
Middle schools are divided into two transportation zones. Zone A middle schools are Arlington, Fletcher, Gilbert, North Shore, Kernan, Landmark, Mayport, Ribault, Southside, and Twin Lakes. Zone B middle schools are Baldwin, Butler, Jeff Davis, DuPont, Highlands, Mandarin, Northwestern, Oceanway, Paxon, Stilwell, Stuart, and Westview.

Transportation is provided to middle school magnet students county-wide with the exceptions of Fort Caroline which is limited to Zone A, Lake Shore which is limited to Zone B, and Mayport which is served by the Coastal Transportation Plan (CTP). Middle school magnet students at John E. Ford and North Shore are transported according to the elementary zone guidelines for those two schools. Transportation for Zone A and Zone B is provided on Express Routes. Express Routes have limited bus stops and are located at or near a Duval County Public School or other appropriate public locations selected by the Transportation Department. The District's distance to stop policy does not apply to Express Routes. Parents or guardians are responsible for getting their children to and from bus stops. The Coastal Transportation Plan (CTP) provides limited service to Mayport Middle School. The CTP consists of existing nonneighborhood Express Routes from the Gilbert, Northwestern, and Ribault attendance zones and shuttle buses from Fletcher High School, Sandalwood High School and Terry Parker High School to Mayport Middle School. Parents or guardians are responsible for getting their students to and from the shuttle sites.

High Schools & Selected Middle Schools
High schools are not divided into zones. County-wide transportation is provided with a combination of neighborhood routes, shuttles, and Express Routes. Express Route stops are located at or near a Duval County Public School or other appropriate public locations selected by the Transportation Department. The District distance to stop policy does not apply to Express Routes. Parents or guardians are responsible for getting their students to and from bus stops. There are some differences in the transportation system that apply to specific schools:

  • In the AM, transportation is provided to students attending Douglas Anderson, Darnell-Cookman, James Weldon Johnson, LaVilla, Paxon Advanced Studies, Paxon Middle, Frank Peterson, A.P. Randolph, and Stanton on neighborhood buses to the neighborhood high school followed by shuttle service to the magnet school. Express Route service is provided in the PM.
  • Landon has a combination of shuttle service and Express Routes with some shuttles from Wolfson in the AM.
  • All others are provided Express Route service both AM and PM.
